Introduction: Plasma cutting is a method in which the materials having good electricity carriage properties can be cut using high-speed beam of plasma which is very high in temperature. This method can cut variety of elements such as copper, steel, brass, iron, aluminum and other metals. This process can be used for many purposes such as assembling, molding, welding, shaping, automotive alignment and reconstruction, factory manufacturing, accretion and scrapping affairs. These technique is now widely employed, from small scale industries to heavy ones as it is very economical, has good momentum, gives accurate cuts and yet very simple to use.
Plasma cutting process
An electrically charged pathway of ionized gas is created over the material which is supposed to cut. In other words, a dynamic track is formed around the best portable plasma cutter via the base. A condensed vapor of any inert gas, oxygen or any other gas relying upon the material being cut is blasted at a very high speed through a focused faucet towards the metal. Because of this, a charged arch is generated between a terminal which is joined into the faucet and the metal itself. This charged arch then ionizes the vapor and thus a medium of charged of plasma is generated. The power which is created from the cutter and transferred through the medium generates enough heat to melt the metal. The accelerated plasma and condensed vapor gusts out the molten material away i.e. cutting it from metal.
Plasma cutting process is extremely compelling and it is sufficient enough to cut slender as well as heavy metals in similar way. A plasma cutter generally uses a copper faucet which compresses the vapor with the arch streaming in it. This arch then leaps from the terminal to the metal which is supposed to be cut. This is known as “conveyed arch”. There is another type which is known as non-conveyed arch in which the arch leaps from the terminal to the faucet but this method is not as effective and basically not used for cutting. In plasma cutting also, there are many types such as some torches having good hand hold can cut up to 40mm thick metals while the mechanically controlled ones can cut the metals deeper. This process is regulated at very high heat and with the help of this you can cut heavy metal sheets very easily of any shape, curve or size.
In most cases tungsten material is preferred instead of copper as a terminal because copper disintegrates too fast if affixed to arch directly. Generally small torches use thin terminals made up of tungsten with knifelike edge. But it should also be used very carefully as it can probably be set on fire if oxygen is present around. Solution to this is the use of associable known as Hafnium. It has a long durability even in the existence of oxygen with less wearing.
Thus, in short, plasma cutting process is used to cut all types of materials having good electrical regulation such as steel, aluminum, brass, copper, iron, titanium, bronze and other alloys. Only the concern is that temperature at which these different materials melt can be sometimes to give a good curved cut.
